THE END OF COLDPLAY?

Last night at the Brit Awards after Coldplay won the award for Best Album (ha!), Chris Martin shocked the world with the following statement: "Thank you. That's it, we won't see you for a very long time."

And so the speculation begins.  When asked about his comments after the show, Martin said, "We need to go away. We've got a lot of work to do, that's all."  So is this the end of Coldplay as we know it?  Will there be a "Rockstar: Coldplay" in 2007?  And will Chris Martin and all his annoying pseudo-politics finally go away?  We can only hope that the answers to all these questions are a resounding YES.

In the meantime, it looks like we will have to put up with them for a little bit longer.  Check out this video of a couple of guys that probably like Coldplay a little too much...someone please give them a copy of Zeppelin IV, a picture of a naked woman and a time machine so they can go into the future, watch this video and get really, really red in the face.

BUILT TO SPILL

On April 11, 2006, Built To Spill will release You In Reverse on Warner Brothers Records.  It's the band's first record in close to five years, and one of the most anticipated releases in the indie world of 2006.  LiquidGeneration will have an interview with the band in the next couple of weeks, so if you're dying to know something that only we would ask, let us know and we'll do our best to make it so. MYLO - DESTROY ROCK & ROLL

This was one of the best "dance" records of last year, and it finally got its US release back on February 7, 2006.  I don't understand why they just can't coordinate world wide releases.  It would seem to me that an artist would have a much higher rate of success if a record came out everywhere at once, as opposed to releasing the same record four times in four different countries.  Plus it's really annoying that the Brits and their fellow Europeans get dibs on everything. 

In any case, Destroy Rock & Roll is a good times record, even if you don't like to dance.  I am sure most of you are already familiar with Mylo, but thought I would throw it out there in case the record slipped under your radar.  Here's a remix he did of a band that is also "so last year:"

SUPERGRASS LIVE!

I spent my Valentines Day with Rock and Beer...it was awesome. 

Supergrass are a strange band in that it seems they are liked by everyone, but loved by very few.  A couple of years back I found a pin that read: "Supergrass, everyone's second favorite band."  While, I hardly feel sorry for them, it must be kinda frustrating to always be second best.  In any case, I saw them last night at the Vic Theater here in Chicago, and as usual they were great.  I have seen them a number of times, and every time is different...which is always a sign of a really talented band.  This time round they opened with an acoustic set ("St. Petersburg" from Road to Rouen and incredible versions of "Caught By The Fuzz" and "Sitting Up Straight" from I Should Coco), and then launched into a set that saw them playing songs from all five of their records.  Later in the show, Gaz and his brother played a couple of songs with each of them on keyboards...something that I've never seen before and was really impressed with just how strong of a singer Gaz has become over the years.  Other highlights included: Rush Hour Soul, Strange Ones, Grace, Moving, Lose and one of my personal favorites Sun Hits the Sky (MP3)

It wouldn't be right to have a post about Supergrass without one of their videos, as they make some of the best in the business.  Here's "Pumping on Your Stereo:"

THE RETURN OF GNR?

And so the saga that is the Chinese Democracy continues.  According to the Star Online (We here at LiquidGeneration have a firm policy to believe everything we read) AND Slash, the long-awaited new album from Axl Rose aka Guns N Roses is due to "drop" in March:

"Yeah, it's going to happen, I've been made aware it's been heard. I'm really excited, it's been a long time waiting to see what the next step around the corner was going to be for him (Axl Rose)," Slash said. "We know where everybody else is, but we were wondering what he was going to be doing. It's coming out in March and apparently it sounds great."

I was under the impression that Slash hated Axl Rose.  Doesn't it suck when even the former members of Guns and Roses can't keep a feud going?  At least Johnny Marr still hates Morrissey...I guess that's better than nothing.

In other GNR related news, apparently Axl Rose played the new record for a couple of New York City club owners at 5:30 in the morning one day last week.  According to the New York Post, Axl and company (Strippers) bribed the owners of the Chelsea club Stereo to keep serving them by letting them hear the new record.  Ok.  The good news: Axl Rose still parties.  The bad news: Using the new GNR record to keep clubs open later smells a little bit like crazy to me.

And finally, if you can't wait to hear the Chinese Democracy, an album that has been 13 years in the making, you can always check out Dizzy's band...the awesomely named Hookers N' Blow.  Yeah, they party, even when they're playing at Rum Runners Resort in Florida!

So it's 9 AM on February the 14 and you still haven't got that special someone the mandatory token Valentine's Day gift.  Never fear, LiquidGeneration is here to plan your entire evening for you. First, you must realize that even if you don't want to make a big deal out of it, you have to get something....this is especially true if you are a man, boy or man-child.  Sometimes the ladies will say things like: "Valentines day is stupid." or "I really don't like to celebrate a holiday invented by Hallmark." or our personal favorite "If you get me anything, I will be sooo mad at you."

Lies.  Everyone last one of 'em.  Don't let them trick you with their web of deceit.  That being said, you are probably starting to panic.  Don't.  We got your back. 

First, you need to get a gift.  For some reason, people seem to think that not spending a lot of money and getting something "personal" is a good thing.  Seems a bit strange to us, but hey, "when in Rome!"  So what better way to communicate your deepest feelings to your "partner," then to make a hasty mix of songs that are in, at least some way, related to that magic feeling called love!  As if that wasn't enough, you can then "burn" this mix onto a shiny CDR to give to that special someone.  We told you we had you covered.  Just to make sure you're on the right track, we've compiled a list of songs that are just perfect...some of them are even MP3s!

LiquidGeneration Presents: Monkey's Name That Tune!

One day I was walking past Monkey's office and heard the sweetest voice filtering into the hallway.  I stopped, quietly peaked into the room and was astounded to discover that the heavenly sound I had heard was actually Monkey singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."(Download)   At first I was a bit startled as he was wearing nothing but ruby red slippers, but I quickly regained my composure and made him sign a record contract right then and there.  You see I don't have a record label or anything like that, but knew that with his voice, Monkey was born to be a star.  We thought about what the next step should be, and decided that before we went out and made a "demo tape" or set up a world tour, we should let you, the users of LiquidGeneration get a sneak peak, err, sound.  Since we like to always make things entertaining, we figured Monkey could sing some songs and you could guess what they were.  That means you get to hear one of the most talented vocalists of our time AND play a game at the same time.  It just doesn't get much better than that!  I know you will be just as impressed with Monkey's vocal stylings as I was.  Click to play...Enjoy!

NIRVANA SHOWS WERE TOUGH!

While it's been well documented that I am not the biggest fan of Nrivana and/or the entire "Grunge" scene in general (that is, of course, until it's ironic to think it's cool or it's ironic to not think it's not cooly ironic?...something like that) I must admit that rock bands back then were a little tougher then all the whining indie rockers we have today.  Check out this video of Kurt Cobain getting clocked by the bouncer that was supposed to be protecting him. I definitely don't see Ben Gibbard getting into a situation like this...I think he plays guitar sitting down anyway.  Oh, and yes that skinny young fellow at the end of the video is in a band called the Foo Fighters now.
