The Perfect Album - Here's a list of the "perfect album" according to the message board and Group Blog, Plastic. Do people really think OK Computer is a perfect record? I don't get it...I mean yeah it's a good record, but why do people insist on putting it on a pedestal. It's definitely not perfect, and there are at least 20 other records on this list that are better.

RIAA Radar - This site is for all of you criminals out there. I don't know how much merit I would put into this, but it's interesting to check out.

Legal Torrents - Well that just takes all the fun out of it, doesn't it?

iPod Cellphone? - New York Times says it's gonna happen. I hope it doesn't. I like my music player to just play music. As soon as you start adding all these other functions, nothing ever works as well.

Wax Audio - If any of you have had the chance to see M.I.A. live then you have seen something similar to this at the opening of her show. It's pretty much sound bites of Dubya, Tony Blair and others mashed up and put to beats...better with visuals but still worth checking out.

OK GO on NPR - Story about the video for their single "A Million Ways" that is all over the place right now. I'm sure you've seen it, but if not you can watch it here as well.

Ahhh, the last week of Summer releases. Yeah I know it's not officially Fall yet, but in my mind the last day of Summer is the last day of August. It's really not that big of a deal to me, as I'm more than ready for the heat and humidity of Summer to go away. Plus, don't some records just sound better in the Fall? The Sun are a Columbus, OH quintent set to release their debut LP on Warner Bros. Records on Septemeber 13th. Apparently they are the first major-label band to release a record exclusively on DVD format. While all the hype and buzz is about the format of the record, it just so happens that the music is also worth talking about. Check out this video:

Beastie Boy Remix Fodder - The Beastie Boys have released a bunch of acapella (vocal only) tracks, to encourage and inspire young remixers. I challenge anyone to remix "Root Down" with Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy." Cheers to Matt for the link.

Warner Creates "e-label" - Ummm, well this is not exactly a new idea as indies around the world have been doing it for years. However, it's nice to see the major labels finally trying to embrace digital music.

MOVIE POST - THE BAXTER

The Baxter

In addition to the new releases, videos, playlists and other random goodies posted in this Blog, I am now going to start posting about interesting new movies. Almost all of them will be of the independent variety, as Slippy takes care of the big blockbuster stuff in the Suck My Blog...he loves explosions. Anyway, the first movie I would like to talk about is called the Baxter and it hits theaters in NY and LA on August 26. It's had a really awesome early buzz, which is kinda expected since it was written by and stars Michael Showalter from the State and Stella. Oh, and it co-stars Michael Ian Black and David Wain also from the State and Stella. Not a bad cast, huh? The film's distributor, IFC, has created a quiz called “Are you a Baxter?” Apparently a Baxter is defined as Mr. Wrong, or the guy that a girl just settles for – which is what Michael Showalter plays in the film. It's pretty amusing, so if you want to see some clips from the film or get an idea of what it's all about you should check it out. Enjoy!

FALL TOURS AND MORE

Fall is good times. I mean I like summer and all, but after three months of waking up in a pool of my own sweat, I'm ready for the leaves to start falling and the mercury to dip below 80 degrees at night. I also associate Fall with non-stop awesome live music. Here in Chicago it seems all there is from June through August are street festivals and huge outdoor shows, but come September 1st there's a show (sometimes two) every night of the week for two months. In any case I am looking forward to it, but come the middle of October I'll probably be complaining about how there's too many shows. It's what I do.
