Vive Le France!

Edbanger There's a whole movement going on over in France that is slowly starting to trickle into the UK and US.  It's been 10 years since Daft Punk broke onto the scene and influenced dance music across the world, and now we're starting to see a resurgence of the French dance underground.  The weird thing is that there really isn't a distinguishable "sound" that ties all of these emerging artists together.  Instead I guess it's more of an aesthetic to make people want to party.  At least that's the vibe I get.  The two major players behind the scene are actually two labels.  The first, Ed Banger, has more of the "indie dance" stuff like Justice, SebastiAn and Uffie.  Even the artists on this label are worlds apart with Justice being all fuzz and bottom end andJustice Uffie sounding kinda like a vocoded Lady Sovereign.  The other label, Kitsuné, has more in common with the sound of Daft Punk and the entire "French Touch" scene, with artists like Simian Mobile Disco, Playgroup and most notably their compilations: Kitsuné Midnight, Kitsuné Maison and the soon to be released Kitsuné Maison 2.  Between these two labels there really is a wealth of new and interesting dance/indie music for you to discover.  There's a great article over at Stylus that goes into a bit more depth on this entire scene.  Check it out here

CuizWhile Ed Banger and Kitsuné might be the two most notable names in this scene, that's not to say that there aren't a wealth of other artists also worth taking notice of.  One of my favorite of the group are TTC who I have posted about before and who have started to appear on/as the Cuizinier mix CDs which are def. worth checking out.

And now, the music:

Simian Mobile Disco - The Count.mp3

Justice - Let There Be Light.mp3

Cuizinier - Saute Sur Ma Musique.mp3

Uffie - Pop the Glock.mp3

Wolfmother - Woman (mstrkrft remix).mp3 from the soon to be released Kitsuné Maison 2 compilation out on 6.6.6.  Totally.
